California Caramel Nuggets
| Raisin-caramel nuggets drizzled with a brown butter icing. |
| INGREDIENTS |
| 1 cup California raisins |
| 1 cup walnuts |
| 1 cup butter or margarine |
| 1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar |
| 2 teaspoons vanilla |
| 2 cups flour |
| 1 teaspoon salt |
| Brown Butter Icing |
| 1/3 cup butter |
| 3 cups powdered sugar |
| 3 tablespoons milk |
| 2 teaspoons vanilla |
| PROCEDURE |
| Chop raisins and walnuts; set aside. Cream butter, brown sugar and vanilla until light. Sift flour and salt; add to creamed mixture, blending well. Stir in raisins and walnuts. Spread into greased 13x9-inch pan. Bake at 350°F for 20 to 25 minutes. Do not overbake; crust should be slightly soft. |
| Meanwhile, stir butter over medium heat until light brown; cool slightly. Add powdered sugar, milk and vanilla. Beat until smooth. Cool bars and frost. |
